ABOUT THE LYF LOGO
The new logo features three fish, drawing from an ancient symbol for the Christian church. The logo represents the focus of the LCMS vision for youth ministry.
The logo fish are "cross-eyed" suggesting that all youth ministry first focuses on Christ and strives to help build a young person's relationship with his or her Savior.
The use of three fish calls to mind our triune God and also represents the relational nature of youth ministry including relationships with God, with each other, with adults and family members and with the local congregation.
Building strong relationships is a key element in effective youth ministry. With a bit of humor, the logo is appropriate for youth ministry in that fish and youth both travel in schools. The fish "swim" together, focused on Christ.
The new logo replaces the two versions of the butterfly logo used to mark LCMS Youth Ministry over the past 23 years. The new logo was designed by Rev. Terry Dittmer, Director of LCMS Youth Ministry, and graphically interpreted by Steve Teson, Owl Design It Graphic Design, St. Peters, Missouri.

LCMS TEEN LEADERSHIP INITIATIVES
Helping teens become leaders, the TLI leadership components help teens identify their leadership strengths and then be trained to become effective in using their gifts. Teen Leadership Initiative includes six different component parts ...
TEENS REACHING TEENS helps teens share their faith in Jesus Christ with their friends. Designed by DCE Jay Reed, Acton, Massachusetts, "TRT" helps teens develop their own personal testimony which they can use when the opportunity arises.
TEEN BUILDING TEAMS, designed by DCE Chris Drager, Kalamazoo, Michigan, focuses on equipping teens to do effective community building in congregational settings. Teens learn the characteristics of groups and explore biblical concepts of team development. Teens taking the initiative can help their youth ministry programs support and care for teens.
TEENS LEADING TEENS was designed by North Wisconsin district executive Lee Belmas, Wausau, Wisconsin, and parish youth worker, Jean Umland, Shawano, Wisconsin. "TLT" explores the concept of servant leadership exemplified in the model of Jesus Christ. Teens explore their own leadership strengths and identify how they can use their gifts in effective leadership.
TEENS TEACHING TEENS explores how teens can effectively lead their own Bible classes and discussion groups. Designer, DCE Kurt Mews, Napoleon, Ohio, helps teens learn basic learning theory and how to use it with their peers.
TRULY CARING TEENS, designed by Marilyn Bader, St. Louis, Missouri, experienced youth leader and former chairperson of the LCMS Board for Youth Services. TCT helps teens develop their peer ministry skills and how to care for each other.
TEEN ASSET TRAINING, was designed by Rev. Ron Roma, guidance counselor at Lutheran High South, St. Louis, Missouri. TAT is based on Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets of healthy youth and helps youth be more aware and proactive of these assets in their lives.
Nearly every LCMS district has young people trained in these components. Training is designed for teens to lead each other through the material, putting into practice the philosophy that teens can be effective leaders. Contact your district office or the DCS Youth Ministry at 800-248-1930 ext. 1155 for the trainer closest to you.
